Arrival In Spain

History >  ARRIVAL IN SPAIN

Cacao was later introduced to the Court of Charles Quint in 1544. Dark chocolate that was still in drink form was largely hidden in Spain for more than a century (the processing was secretly done by monks in monasteries) and the drink was only available to the royalty and clerks.

The secret of cacao then arrived to the Flanders, the Netherlands.
